ancient rome gladiator

How does one become a gladiator?(Ancient Rome)?
does the individual have a choice to become a gladiator? And what kind of freedoms and rights did gladiators have? please no links.
They were slaves, or people condemned “to the gladiatory” (“as the modern forced labour camps”)….
A man could choose to become a gladiator, maybe to espiate a personal giult, but it wasn’t a very prestigious work.
Even if he had more respect then a common slave, the gladiator risked his life everyday and in the match he could be involved in a “dead or alive” fight with one of his friends.
The gladiator myth grew up among the Roman rich women who payed a lot of money to stay a night with the stronger men of the Empire…
They as slaves didn’t have no right, only after a lot of years of fightings (if they survives so long),if they became too oldd to fight or payed their dues with their owners, the owner (usually an ex-gladiator) could decide to make ‘em free, so they took all the rights of a free man and they could start trade with slaves too (but the freedom came really rarely)….
