roman gladiator tattoo
What was the tattoo that Roman legionaries had on our hands?

I saw the other day, Gladiator and remember that as a sign of loyalty would Roman legionary tattoo their arms. As I recall it had something to do with his legion (As in the appointment of his legion), but I've never met or reproductions Photo of art. Does anyone know what has been tattooed or have any references?

The tattoo was in the arms SPQR Senatus Populus Roman legionary Roman represented. Also

If you want to be historically accurate, the mark was SPQR.
In the film Gladiator, the mark was on his arm. In actual fact, the mark was made on the hands. This is widely believed to be because it made more difficult to hide in the event of a soldier deserting.
Gladiators on the other hand so to speak, had tattoos on their hands, arms, legs and also on their faces until this practice was abolished.
